Three countries trek

Three countries trek takes you across mountains of northernmost Scandinavia. This hiking adventure starts and ends in Kilpisjärvi, Finland. Landscape is dominated by open tundra and mighty mountaintops, dotted with crystal clear and pristine lakes. During the hike we will have the opportunity to summit one of the iconic mountains of the area like Bárrás, Bealčán or Moskángáisi. Duration of the trek we will stay between 600-1000 meters above sea level.

September is the season for long hikes in the mountains. Beautiful autumn colors cover the landscape and nights begin to be long and dark enough for spotting Aurora Borealis. This is truly wonderful time to be out in the Arctic wilderness!

Distance in total will be around 70 km and we use 6 days to cover this. We spend the nights in our comfortable tents and cook meals together with camping stoves. If you’re fit enough to walk 10-15 km daily and carry your own food and camping gear – then this hike is for you!

Daily itinerary

Day 1

We take the Malla- boat over lake Kilpisjärvi in the morning. We will have a good break by the Three-Country Cairn/Border stone before we continue towards Norway and further into the wilderness.

Day 2-5

Full days of hiking. The route will go through the magnificent Isdalen and further south until we reach the lush slopes of Rostadalen. From here we will head east towards Sweden. After crossing the border to Sweden we start heading north, back towards Kilpisjärvi. The itinerary and final route is adapted according to the weather conditions.

Day 6

We will hike through the Malla Strict Nature Reserve before arriving to Kilpisjärvi, where our adventure ends. You can stay overnight in one of the many nice accommodation options in the village.
